5 Tips for First Time Franchise Owners

Becoming a first-time franchise owner is in an incredibly exciting time. It also can be very daunting — but that’s part of what makes this period so exciting. By being prepared and confident, an entrepreneur new to the world of franchising can take their latest venture by the horns and greatly improving their chance of success.

Here are 5 tips to help first time franchise owners succeed.

1: Make Sure You Have the Qualities of a Franchise Owner. Give yourself a gut check, because any new business venture is not for the faint of heart. If it’s not for you, figure that out, and stop here. Some of the best qualities a successful franchise owner possesses include coachability, people skills, work ethic, ability to follow the rules of an established system, being motivated by results, thinking about the big picture and being cool and collected. While most of these traits are inborn and others you may be able to develop, all will be needed to be a successful franchisee.

2: Define Your Business Plan. The foundation of a successful franchise is in its business plan. Getting it right requires a lot of homework. If you try to do this independently, it could be the most daunting task of all. The good news is that, as a franchise owner, the franchisor can help immensely with the business plan. Great franchises like Mayweather Boxing + Fitness have already worked out the details and determined best practices and planning from years of honing success.

3: Call Upon Your Franchisor for Help. If you wanted to go through challenges alone, you’d have opened an independent business. But instead, you chose to become a first-time franchise owner. With this decision, you’ve invested to buy a successful concept, so take full advantage of it as you get going. Ask your franchisor for guidance, feedback, and resources. They want to help you succeed.

4: Follow the Lead of Innovators. The best aspect of owning a franchise is being able to harness innovation. A franchisor that has put in the work over time and stays creative knows how to excite its customers. This mindset benefits first-time franchise owners exponentially since the franchisee can focus on growing the business while the franchisor handles the innovation.

5: Choose the Best Franchise Brand for You. Ultimately, a first-time franchise owner’s profit potential is only as good as the brand and system he or she buys into. Do your homework. Figure out how much you’re willing and able to invest and pick the best franchise from there. Research the brands. Ask questions. Talk to current franchise owners of your short list of companies. Is the brand growing? Is the brand adapting to market conditions? The stronger the franchise you own, the better your odds.

Mayweather Boxing + Fitness has been at the forefront of innovation, franchise support and business success. If you are interested in knowing more about how they can help you be a successful first-time franchise owner, fill out this franchise information form and they will get in touch with you.

3 Ways Floyd Mayweather Jr. Has Grown One of The Most Successful Boxing Franchises

Mayweather Boxing + Fitness, a group fitness experience created by World Champion boxer Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr., has launched over 70+ franchise locations with plans to open hundreds more. Floyd Mayweather is a retired, undefeated professional boxer (50-0) whose passion for exercise and self-improvement inspired him to build an impactful health experience. How did a professional boxer with no franchise experience create such a ground-breaking and successful business model? Here are 3 things he did to make sure Mayweather Boxing + Fitness succeeded where other fitness franchises failed.

1: Built an Incredible Corporate Team

Early in the franchise development process Floyd began surrounding himself with an amazing team full of experience and previous success. It wasn’t hard to find the best of the best because with name recognition like “Mayweather” everyone wanted to be part of such a spectacular and exciting brand development process.

One of the key members of Floyds incredible team is James Williams, The President, and CEO of Mayweather Boxing + Fitness. James was previously an advisor to Beyoncé on her entertainment and management company, Parkwood Entertainment, with a focus on developing Beyoncé’s Ivy Park brand. He also co-founded XPT Life, a performance lifestyle brand created by big-wave surfer and fitness innovator, Laird Hamilton, and professional volleyball player, Gabrielle Reece.

Prior to those endeavors, James had an eight-year career at Bain & Company, where he developed growth strategies and devised business plans for some of the most successful luxury, auto and sports brands in the world. Prior to Bain, James was a corporate lawyer at Clifford Chance, at the time the world’s largest law firm and part of the UK’s “Magic Circle” of elite firms, working in both London and New York. While studying for his MBA, James founded the non-profit, SOMB, which provides school uniforms to children in sub-Saharan Africa. He has visited Zimbabwe, Kenya, Rwanda and South Africa on several occasions to oversee SOMB donations.

2: Unique and Effective Training Program

Floyd spent several years together with industry leading fitness experts, taking everything that Mayweather had developed as an elite level athlete, and tailoring and adapting it for the group fitness program. These unique and effective workouts ensure their members achieve better results over time, which maximizes studio retention. Lengthy memberships ultimately deliver more value for Floyd’s franchise owners.

3: Brand Recognition

No other fitness franchise has a name with more recognition than “Floyd Mayweather.” Floyd has around a 70 percent consumer awareness in the U.S. The biggest form of marketing for group fitness today is digital advertising: Facebook, Instagram, Google Ads. Consumers are multiple times more likely to know of the Mayweather brand than any other group fitness concept. This allows for a cheaper cost per lead and higher content engagement. When a Floyd Mayweather Boxing + Fitness studio opens in a new market, they do not have to spend thousands of dollars trying to educate the public on who and what they are. Thanks to the brand recognition the name affords, franchises can hit the ground running.

The Mayweather Boxing + Fitness Group Franchise fitness model has been fine-tuned for well over 10 years. The entire team has spent countless hours developing the business plan, recruiting the best team in the industry, and building a franchise infrastructure that ensures it will remain the industry’s most successful fitness franchise.

Franchise Support With Mayweather Boxing + Fitness Franchise

Why Franchise Support Matters

As any professional boxer knows, you’re only as strong as the team around you. A great boxing coach will teach you how to fight and stay fit, achieve your goals, and take you to a higher level of performance. It’s true, boxers may have the inherent physical abilities and gift for the sport, but no fighter achieves greatness alone. That’s why, no matter what, you see a coach or trainer in every boxer’s corner during a bout.

The same can be said for the relationship between a franchisor and a franchisee. A franchise system is only as strong as its franchise owners, which is why so much time, money and resources are invested in training and support programs. But not all franchises are created equal. Some franchisors go over and above to ensure their franchisees growth through hands-on training, intimate coaching sessions, unlimited resources on operations such as marketing, and ongoing support for the life of the franchise. When entrepreneurs invest in a franchise system, their money should be going toward unmatched support and training, which is why it’s so important to find a franchise system that delivers only the very best.

“A major part of what makes a franchise successful is its easily replicable system, which includes centralized training for how business is done. You’ll have the infrastructure that will help bring new hires up to speed on how things operate—with training modules on opening procedures, daily operations, using point-of-sale software, and more,” according to a report in Forbes. “You’ll have input and help from the franchise on how to craft and execute effective campaigns of your own as well. They may provide, depending on their size and resources, a marketing plan that covers a market analysis, strategy, sales forecast, and budget.”

“With this year’s record-breaking number of applicants, the list offers a comprehensive overview of the state of the franchise world as it emerges from the most challenging days of the pandemic into uncertain economic conditions—and still keeps going strong,” Entrepreneur wrote. “There’s something here for every prospective franchisee, whether you’re interested in finding an opportunity within a brand that has been around for decades or in getting in on the ground floor of the next emerging trend.”

Mayweather Boxing + Fitness Multi-Unit Franchisee Interview

Becoming a Multi-Unit Franchisee with Mayweather Boxing + Fitness

At the age of 29, Sunny Dharni became one of the first multi-unit franchisees at Mayweather Boxing + Fitness. Early on, Dharni saw the potential growth of the emerging franchise in the boutique fitness industry, and realized it had the power to change people’s lives.

“I didn’t want to open up just one location, and then regret not opening as many as I could,” Dharni said. “It’s going to be huge bringing this work out to communities all around the country. The confidence you give people, it changes their lives.”

Dharni comes from a long line of self-made entrepreneurs. For nearly a decade, he worked as a regional manager in his family’s business. But the entrepreneurial spirit started calling, and he began looking for his own career path.

“I was researching opportunities and saw Mayweather Boxing + Fitness, and it looked like an amazing investment opportunity,” he said. “I filled out my application, entered my financial information, and then got a call back a week later. And the rest is history.”

Indeed – Dharni now owns the rights to open 10 stores in Northern California. Already, Dharni has one location operating and packing classes, with two more openings planned by the end of the year.

In this wide ranging interview, Dharni talks about the benefits of running your own business, why Mayweather Boxing + Fitness is such a scalable business model, what sets the brand apart from competitors, and much more.

multi unit franchisee

What are some of the benefits of running your own business?

There are so many – for one, you get to control your own schedule. You’re not really answering to anybody else. Your growth and success is in your own hands. And you get to control parts of the business that you can’t control when you’re working for someone else. It’s all very empowering.

What is the Franchise Support like?

The autonomy of running a Mayweather Boxing + Fitness is awesome. And the corporate staff has been incredible since day one. Even since 2019, when I bought into the company, everybody has been super supportive. Anytime you have a question, someone is there to answer you right away.

Is this a scalable business model?

Oh yeah, this business is very scalable, because you can essentially run it from your laptop. As long as you have a good team of managers you trust, you can really scale it to infinity if you want. And that’s what I was really looking for in the fitness industry.

Are you still able to maintain a healthy work-life balance?

Definitely, it’s been awesome. I like to travel a lot and explore new cities. And with this business model, if you have a great team in place at the studio and everything set, you’re not stuck to one location, and that’s the beauty of it.

Why did you choose Mayweather Boxing + Fitness over other brands?

I saw one study that said 80% of people in the world – that’s eight out of 10 people – know who the boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is. Anything he touches turns into gold, and I felt like if he put his name behind something, he’s going to do everything it takes to make the brand successful.

And then just the concept. It’s a great workout. It really is. When they invited me out to Discovery Day, I did a workout and it was awesome. I had never boxed before, but it gave me so much confidence, and by the end of it, I was walking around like feeling great.

How has the response been from members since opening?

The amount of people who thank me for opening in the community has really moved me. We are changing people’s lives, giving them confidence. And at the same time, opening a Mayweather Boxing + Fitness has completely changed my life. Seeing the positive impact we’re having reminds me why I got into this.

Multi-Unit Franchising With Mayweather Boxing + Fitness

What is Multi-Unit Franchising?

If you are an aspiring entrepreneur looking for a fast-track to growth and wealth creation, look no further than multi-unit franchising. At its core, multi-unit franchising allows franchisees to own and operate more than one business in a defined territory. Having multiple locations means greater and diversified income, lower operating costs, and stronger brand awareness. That’s why more than 50% of all franchises are multi-unit operations.

“There are many benefits to owning multiple franchise locations. Anytime there is a chance to successfully scale a business and create a greater opportunity for wealth creation, it becomes a powerful commodity in the business world. Today, multi-unit franchise development is very popular, and — based on the ability to create wealth – the trend will continue,” according to a report in Forbes magazine.

“As with all business decisions, multi-unit franchise ownership comes down to money and control. If you own a franchise that operates from a retail location, the path to growth is through more development. The more locations you have, the more valuable your business becomes. Larger franchisees who diversify through a variety of locations are also better positioned to withstand an economic downturn – something we witnessed just a decade ago.”

multi unit franchising

Our business model is as straightforward as it gets, making it easy for franchise owners to focus on growing their business and scaling up to multiple locations. And, as an emerging brand in the boutique fitness industry, right now offers a great time to invest, with prime territories available all over the U.S.

“The business model is very straightforward,” says David Weis, owner of multiple locations in the Los Angeles area. “I decided to invest because, as an experienced entrepreneur, I wanted something I could replicate over and over again. I also wanted something that would be exciting to be a part of. When we announce a new location is opening up, the community really goes wild. It’s such an incredible brand to be a part of.”

Scalable Business Model

Mayweather Boxing + Fitness has a business model that’s designed to be easy to operate, easy to scale. For starters, our main source of revenue is predicated on memberships, which is why we offer a proprietary presale process, so you have paying members from day one. With recurring revenue streams, franchise owners have the cash flows needed to make it easy to open multiple locations.

Mayweather Boxing + Fitness also requires very little space and cost to get started. Our layout, for instance, only needs 1,800 to 3,500 of square footage. On top of that, our equipment package is lean and affordable. That’s a far cry from competitors in the fitness industry that need heaps of equipment and space.

“Our business model is designed to be easy to follow,” says James Williams, CEO and co-founder. “Once you find the right location, you can be up and running in a matter of months. Our layout is designed to increase the profit-potential of the business, while delivering an exceptional member experience. We provide the blueprint, so that our franchise owners can focus on growing their business and building a great culture within their four walls.”

Ongoing Support

Mayweather Boxing + Fitness franchise owners also have a team of seasoned business professionals in their corner to help them on their way to multi-unit ownership. From day one, franchisees work with our real-estate team to help find the absolute best location for your franchise, as well as navigating the real estate process. Mayweather Boxing + Fitness’s training and support team is also dedicated to being on-hand and accessible for the entire life of the franchise, making sure you reach your full potential as a franchise owner.

“All of our corporate team has strong experience in boutique fitness,” says Williams. “We understand how to scale franchise systems the right way. Everyone here has a huge passion for fitness, for boxing, and for the success of our franchisees. The relationship and connectedness between our team and our franchisees is a critical part of our success.”

Interview With Mayweather Boxing + Fitness COO

Brian Diaz, COO, Talks about Mayweather Boxing + Fitness Franchise

Mayweather Boxing + Fitness is a boutique fitness brand that not only focuses on group fitness classes, but also offers a range of workout and training programs with high-cardio activities. More than anything, it’s communal, with friends and family of all ages participating in classes.

Brian Diaz, Chief Operating Officer, realized early on that Mayweather Boxing + Fitness was in a unique position because of its unmatched brand name awareness, coupled with a workout you just can’t find anywhere else.

“A lot of the programs and movements that are deployed at the studio and in classes are actually the same punch combos and movement patterns from Floyd himself,” Diaz said. “So our members are getting a higher level workout versus any other kind of standardized brand.”

In this wide-ranging interview, Diaz talks about what makes Mayweather Boxing + Fitness so unique, all the ways the brand generates different sources of income, and why now is the time to invest.

brian diaz boxing man

So what makes Mayweather Boxing + Fitness unique?

First off, just the name itself being associated with the boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. Whether you’re coming in to start a new business, considering franchising, or your customers are looking for something of high value, the name Mayweather always carries huge brand awareness. But really, it’s inside the studio that the value proposition is realized, because you learn how to punch against the bag and move your body is a really effective way. It’s very empowering for all genders and all demographics. People get the opportunity to not only express their power, but feel strong and empowered while doing so. Ultimately, that’s the best expression of fitness and wellness – learning how to move your body and feel really good while you’re doing it.

Why would you choose Mayweather Boxing + Fitness over others?

Again, we have a brand awareness other boutique fitness franchises can only dream of. One of the biggest obstacles for a new business is to get the community aware of your services. With Mayweather Boxing + Fitness, our franchise owners have a leg up because everyone knows Floyd Mayweather. They understand when it says Mayweather Boxing + Fitness, that they’re going to come in and get a world-class workout.

What are all the ways franchise owners generate revenue?

Obviously, we have our ongoing, recurring memberships. That’s the foundation of a killer business model, having repeat customers. In order to do that, you have to have superior service. So that’s what we do with our membership base. We also offer personal training for franchisees to generate additional, high-margin revenue. On top of that, we also have apparel that typically runs a little higher in terms of activity versus other brands, because it’s pretty cool and unique. And down the road, we’re always looking at innovations and evolving to add more services to the brand.

Who makes for the ideal Mayweather Boxing + Fitness franchise owner?

The ideal franchise owner is somebody that embodies leadership and passion. They don’t need to know the intricacies of boutique fitness, we provide that through onboarding. But we can’t teach passion. We also look for franchise owners who are capable of retaining customers and building communities. Because that’s the idea of the Mayweather Boxing + Fitness: through strong leadership, we can create pockets of communities that are emboldened and healthier.

Why is now a great time to invest?

Now is a great time to invest in Mayweather Boxing + Fitness, because boutique fitness is still scaling. It’s constantly growing, more folks are looking for that one-on-one member experience versus going into a big box gym that’s 10,000 square feet, and you don’t get the opportunity to engage in that social human interaction. That’s first and foremost. Then beyond that, boxing boutique fitness is one of the more attractive market segments in boutique fitness that has grown exponentially. Couple those two things with the Mayweather brand, its concepts and its awesome classes, then you realize there’s no other time than now to invest.

Boutique Fitness Industry is Growing

The fitness industry is making a comeback for the ages. As one of the hardest hit industries by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the health and fitness industry is already on an incredible recovery journey. Now, the global fitness industry is expected to hit $190.56 billion in 2022 and grow to $434.74 billion by 2028. It’s clear the fitness industry has shaken off the blows from the pandemic and has come back stronger than ever.

But not everyone wants the same old gym experience. Increasingly, the demand for “boutique fitness” – smaller studios that specialize in a particular workout or regime – is through the roof. According to Run Repeat, more than 42% of all gym memberships are to boutique fitness studios, making up nearly half of the $102 billion revenue from the gym industry in 2021. What’s more, the boutique fitness industry is expected to be worth $22.1 billion by 2022, up nearly 5% from pre-pandemic levels. By 2025, that number is expected to shoot up an incredible 17% to $26.2 billion!

Mayweather Boxing + Fitness Acquires KickHouse Franchise

KickHouse Franchise Systems Joins Mayweather Boxing + Fitness

Get ready to step into the ring at a Mayweather Boxing + Fitness near you, after a huge expansion of the premiere boutique fitness franchise. Just recently, MW Fitness Holdings, LLC, the parent company of Mayweather Boxing + Fitness, acquired KickHouse Fitness, LLC, a leading kickboxing franchise system. Now, the existing 65 Mayweather Boxing + Fitness locations will combine with the 26 KickHouse locations, expanding both franchises’ footprints in communities all over the U.S.

“We are beyond excited to become part of the Mayweather Fitness family, sitting alongside the industry-leading Mayweather Boxing + Fitness brand and team,” KickHouse Fitness’ founder, Jessica Yarmey, said in a statement. “We believe that this combination will offer opportunities across all areas of the combined business, including marketing and franchisee support, and will help make all locations more relevant and attractive to consumers across the country.”

The announcement is just the latest development in Mayweather Boxing + Fitness’s incredible growth over the past few years. Case in point: in March 2020, Mayweather Boxing + Fitness had just 5 locations. Now, the boutique fitness franchise has 65 gyms across the U.S. – that’s a 1200% growth in two years! The rapid expansion of Mayweather Boxing + Fitness can be attributed to the unique, immersive training experience developed by undefeated world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather, which offers inclusive, high-intensity fitness workouts, instructional videos, and classes that deliver results. But the franchise’s success is also a product of a highly attractive, easy to operate business model that’s designed to help franchise owners succeed and grow their business.
